Smart Maps - Berlin app good for
With Smart Maps, I was able to leave my paper map behind. I could pop up out of a subway stop and quickly pin point where I was using GPS. No searching for street signs and then trying to find where on B5 my location was. And then when I was done, I slipped it back into my pocket - no folding and refolding and mis-folding of maps. Being able to search for locations and dropping bookmark pins made planning ahead very easy.
Suggestion to developers: Being able to lock a pin would be great as I frequently moved a bookmark pin by mistake. Having the English equivalent names of locations would also be helpful as occasionally, I did not have the German name handy.
Very useful ; you know where you are any time- dont need to use google maps all the time and waste data for downloads. I used it in Berlin and it was very convenient to plan my trips and go around.
I used this app in Berlin during a 5 days visit. It was my first time in Berlin and thanks to this app it was very easy to find the way everywhere, almost as a local. Very easy to navigate by foot or to find your station while riding on a bus. All it takes is to nail a pin on your destination and start navigating towards the target. I hope the next version will include a distance calculation to the destination and a recommended route in color. Very useful.
Very helpful resource for navigating cities and finding local stores etc. suggest adding a legend for some of the icons on the map.
Some bad moments
Got this app a few days ago. Worked fine for 2 days, but after getting the iOS4 update, the app has crashed everytime I want to search anything. This must be fixed!!!
Gps It was working only few times and bad.

I just moved to Berlin, so Im very happy to have a (searchable by street name) map on my iPod Touch, since there are lots of times Im not on the internet. There are two bugs that are pretty annoying, though:
1) the zoom is a bit broken: the map always translates west as I zoom out, so that the center drifts when youre trying to find the right scale
2) the locator button works when youre on (or nearby) a network that tells you its location; but if you arent on a network, or its one that doesnt transmit the location, then the application sends you to the *previous* location you were at, even if very far away
The map also doesnt always depict streets as streets. For instance, Linenstrasse (Berlin) is a lot longer than the map conveys, although there is a dotted line there that indicates something is there.
The bug fixes should be easy, so I look forward to the next version! Without the bugs, Id give it 4 stars and say its easily worth the price.
Really disappointed by this app. It show icons for restaurants etc, but no details. What?? How would I know if I want to go there if I dont even know the name?weird app, not much better than google maps unless Im missing something
This app is a major disappointment. It offers no help in actually figuring out how to use the metro. Say you are at one stop and need to get to another stop, it does not tell you what trains to take or where to switch trains. Unless you know how to get around and use the metro this app wont help. All it can do is show you where on the street you are and whats close by. No real help in figuring out transportation at all. It should at least have a map of the metro that you can view with trains labeled.
